A Louisiana mother and daughter have been arrested and charged with abusing dogs at their training facility. Cypress Arrow Kennel & K9 Academy owner Tina Frey, 52, and her daughter Victoria Brimer, 21, face two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post Thursday. The two were arrested after officials were alerted to a video on social media that showed Frey hitting a Cane Corso dog in the head with a riding crop. Detectives then opened an investigation and confirmed the validity of the video. Police were thus able to establish “sufficient probable cause to support the initial complaint,” the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains “very active and ongoing” and that the mother and daughter may face additional charges. “I want to thank the public for bearing with us while we conducted a full and thorough investigation into these allegations,” Sheriff Mark Wood said in the Facebook post. “ “I would also like to commend Animal Control and our detectives for their investigation of this incident and for staying on track, following the evidence where it leads and not giving in to the pressure of a quick arrest,” he continued. “We always take these animal complaints seriously, as we do all crimes, but we also need to investigate and make sure the alleged crime is within the law.” LOUISIANA DEMOCRATS RUN FOR SENATE HIGHLIGHT MAJOR PARTY’S ATTEMPT TO RUIN ELECTIONS A photo from a video that has gone viral shows a trainer at Cypress Arrow Kennel & K9 Academy allegedly hitting a dog with a horse. (YouTube) Frey’s attorney, Brad Drell, insists his client is innocent, saying in a statement to People magazine, “I want to state unequivocally that Tina Frey has never harmed or injured a dog in her care. She is a respected dog trainer and has the qualified to train other coaches”. Drell said Frey is an “expert” in dealing with the Cane Corso breed. “Weighing over 100 kilograms, they have the potential to be very dangerous to human beings if they are not trained assets,” he said, pointing to recent incidents in which the breed has attacked humans. The attorney, referring to the video depicting the alleged abuse, said the video of Frey “using a squirt [a short whip] in” the dog named Fenixx “creates a false impression that dogs are injured. LAST 3 LOUISIANA HAIR CLINIC LEAVING THE STATE The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains “very active and ongoing” and that the mother and daughter may face additional charges. (Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office) “While the video is disturbing to many, what needs to be understood is that Fenixx at the time was attempting to chew through a leash, which would have allowed Fenixx to bite either Ms. Frey or her daughter,” he said. The video shows two women each holding a leash and pulling in opposite directions as a woman, identified by Dreel as Frey, hits the animal. He said Frey used a trunk to prevent the dog from biting on the leash and noted that the video shows Frey and Fenixx’s owner using the trunk on themselves and “it doesn’t hurt.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP “While the wallet makes some noise, it’s flexible and not painful,” Drell said. “While I understand that many people feel, and some very strongly, that using a muzzle is not what they would do to correct a dog, using a muzzle is not inhumane under the law. Fenixx was not injured in any way , as seen in the video”.
