By Samantha Lawson Posted August 20, 2022 at 4:28 pm Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon. Forecasters are watching for a powerful storm capable of causing heavy rainfall and flash flooding. The storm is over northern Brampton and southern Caledon and the ECCC says it is almost stationary. The most immediate danger to residents is heavy rainfall expected in quantities of up to 50 mm per hour. Heavy rainfall can cause flash flooding and pooling of water on roads. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on the vehicle’s headlights and maintain a safe following distance. Avoid driving through water on roads. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that area residents take cover immediately if threatening weather conditions approach. insauga Editorial Standards and Policies
