West Sussex Fire and Rescue (WSFR) attended the scene on the River Adur near the Shoreham Toll Bridge at around 3.40pm. following security concerns.
A passer-by told The Argus that around 20 people attended, including teams from Shoreham RNLI, East Sussex Fire and Rescue, the specialist water rescue unit and Secamb.
The two teenagers were taken to safety by the RNLI.

A WSFR spokesman said: “At 3.36pm. West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service received a call with concerns for the safety of two people who were in the water near the Shoreham Toll Bridge.
“Crews from Worthing and Littlehampton attended, along with colleagues from East Sussex Fire and Rescue, to assist the RNLI who managed to get the two people to safety.”
