Bill Paxton’s family has settled a wrongful-death lawsuit with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the doctor who operated on the actor.

The late actor’s family notified Los Angeles County Superior Court of the settlement on Friday, nearly a month before the ride was set to begin. “The matter has been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties,” co-plaintiffs’ attorneys Bruce Broglie and Steve Heiberg said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter. The terms of the settlement are confidential.

The lawsuit was filed in 2018, about a year after the Apollo 13 and Twister star died at age 57 of a stroke following heart surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm. Paxton suffered serious complications during and after the surgery — an operation in which his family alleged that hospital staff, including Paxton’s surgeon, Dr. Ali Hoynesad, did negligently.

They also alleged that the hospital tried to cover up this negligence by not performing an autopsy and lying to the company hired for Paxton’s cremation and memorial service that his family did not want it.

In February, Paxton’s family settled the wrongful-death lawsuit with General Anesthesia Specialists Partnership for $1 million, with the company arguing that it bears no responsibility for Paxton’s death. According to court documents, the group agreed to “reasonably compensate the plaintiffs and avoid exposing the defendant to a costly and time-consuming trial.”

The claims against General Anesthesia Specialists Partnership included wrongful death, a survivorship action, and breach of fiduciary duty.
