Former President Donald Trump went after Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on social media for expressing skepticism about Republicans’ chances of regaining congressional majorities in November’s midterm elections. In a post on Truth Social, Trump called the Senate Minority Leader a “corrupt political hack” and questioned loyalty to his party. “Why are Republican Senators allowing a corrupt political hack, Mitch McConnell, to openly disparage the hard-working Republican candidates for the United States Senate,” Trump asked. He should be spending more time (and money!) helping them get elected and less time helping his crazy wife and family get rich in China!” TRUMP AUTHORIZES PROTESTS IN GEORGIA ELECTIONS PUT YOU ‘IN JAIL’ WHILE MURDERERS ARE RELEASED ‘QUICKLY’ The comment comes as McConnell suggested Thursday that he did not believe Republicans would take the Senate because “the quality of the candidates has a lot to do with the outcome.” He said his party may do better in retaking the U.S. House. “I think there’s probably a better chance of overturning the House than the Senate,” said the minority leader at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. “Senate races are just different, they’re statewide. The quality of the candidates has a lot to do with the outcome.” “Right now, we have a 50-50 Senate and a 50-50 state, but I think when it’s all said and done this fall, we’re likely to have an extremely close Senate. slightly,” he added.
