Birmingham police identified the victim as Jamari Smith. West Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:39 a.m. after multiple shots fired calls at 4421 Ishkooda-Wenonah Road SW When they arrived, they found Smith in the front yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Lt. Rod Mauldin said. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. Mauldin said the preliminary investigation indicates Smith was talking with another man, whose identity has not been released, outside before he was shot. The suspect or suspects fled the scene and remain at large. Detectives have yet to determine a motive. Lykeria Taylor (Birmingham Police) Smith and his girlfriend were shot on June 13, 2021, while driving in a vehicle near the intersection of Warrior Street and Avenue V. Smith survived the shooting, but 21-year-old Lykeria Briana Taylor died the next day at UAB Hospital. The couple had just left the Euphoria Sports Bar and Hookah Lounge, also known as Club Euphoria, where three people had been shot. The shooting at the club happened at 1:58 am. that Sunday. A short time later, at 2:20 a.m., officers found Smith and Taylor injured on Warrior Road. Police at the time said it appeared a vehicle pulled up next to them and fired at their vehicle after they left the club. No arrests have ever been made in Taylor’s murder. Smith is Birmingham’s 92nd homicide this year. Of these, six have been deemed justified. Across Jefferson County, there have been 126 homicides, including 92 in Birmingham.
