“It’s really, really hard for me to say that I’m proud of myself. I’m upset, really, deep in my heart,” Joshua told reporters. “I tried a different style … in the last fight I wanted to fight as a boxer, but it wasn’t good enough and tonight it wasn’t good enough.” Joshua threw away two of Usyk’s belts after the final bell before exiting the ring, only to return later to deliver an impassioned speech. “When you try to do things from your heart, not everyone will understand,” Joshua explained. “It was just from my heart. I knew I was mad at myself. Not at anybody, just myself. I felt like I had to get out of here because I’m crazy. “When you’re angry you can do stupid things. That’s when I realized this is sports. I came back and did the right thing.” Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn dismissed speculation that retirement could be around the corner for the 32-year-old, who has only fought Usyk since last year. “I’m a fighter for life. This hunger never dies. A fighter for life,” Joshua said.
