A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead with “injuries consistent with gunshot wounds” in Liverpool. Police had rushed to Leinster Road just after 12.40pm today. They found the body of a woman in the back garden of a property. She was taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Officers are now on the hunt for any information about a vehicle that was driving “erratically” in the area. Detective Constable Mark Baker, of Merseyside Police, said: “This investigation is in the very early stages and while we understand the public will be shocked and very concerned by what happened, we have a number of officers at the scene carrying out extensive inquiries to understand what has happened and take immediate action. “A woman has tragically lost her life today and I want to reassure the public that we will do everything we can to find who is responsible and bring them to justice. “I would ask anyone who was in the area of Leinster Road in the early hours of this morning who saw or heard anything or believes they have caught anything significant on their doorbell or dash cam to contact us urgently. information that is vital to our investigation. “I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a vehicle being driven erratically in the area around Prescot Road.” Investigations are ongoing to officially identify the woman and inform her relatives as soon as possible. House-to-house and CCTV searches were carried out in the area this morning with a heavy police presence expected for most of the day.
